A suggested collection for 1st grade practice. Read the meanings, try the examples, and use each word in a sentence of your own.

Word	Meaning	In a sentence
braveadjective	Willing to face danger, difficulty, or fear.	It was brave of Noor to admit the mistake in front of the group.
calmadjective	Not feeling or showing strong worry, anger, or excitement.	Maya stayed calm when the lights suddenly went out.
createverb	To make something new or bring something into existence.	The students will create a mural for the entrance hall.
discoververb	To find something or learn a fact that you did not know before.	We discovered a tiny nest beneath the porch roof.
journeynoun	An act of traveling from one place to another, especially over some distance.	The journey to the island included a train ride and a short ferry crossing.
noticeverb	To become aware of something by seeing, hearing, or otherwise observing it.	Did you notice the new sign beside the gate?
patientadjective	Able to wait or work through difficulty without becoming annoyed.	Our patient teacher explained the problem a third time.
similaradjective	Alike in one or more ways without necessarily being identical.	The two coats are similar in color but different in length.
